IT'S TIME TO RACE!!

February 9, 2009 David Rogers tops Night 3 at New Smyrna Speedway NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL (February 8, 2009) – The third night of the 43rd Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing took place Sunday night at New Smyrna Speedway (FL). Four divisions raced throughout the evening with four different drivers taking home victories. In the first feature of the night, Jessica Murphy looked to repeat her win from last night, but AJ Curreli made the move around her in the closing laps to take the victory. Murphy held on for second while Justin Larson finished third. When Lee Collins lost the lead and spun during the Florida Modified division feature, everyone thought his chances at going back to back was over. Fluids on the track caused multiple cars to lose control, so the officials threw the yellow. Collins was able to hold onto the lead after the restart to take the victory over Jerry Symons and Rodney Brooks. In the Super Late Model feature, Johanna Long set fast time, but it was David Rogers taking the feature victory. In a torrid battle for second, Jeff Choquette, who won the first two nights of action, stalked Wayne Anderson the entire race and nipped him for second as they crossed the line side by side. The final feature of the night was for the Winged Sprints, their first trip to Speedweeks 2009. Ben Fritz started from the pole, but it was Dave Steele, coming from the 12th starting position, running up to the front, taking the victory. Troy DeCaire was second, followed by Mark Gimmler. The fourth night of Florida Speedweeks at New Smyrna Speedway will take place Monday, February 9th. The Tour-Type Mods, Antique Racecars, Crate Late Models, Winged Sprints, SK Modifieds and the Florida Mods will all see action. Green flag for the first feature event is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
