Multiple Winners Celebrate Victories at New Smyrna Speedway

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL (February 7, 2009) – Night two of the 43rd Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing took place Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway (FL). Six divisions raced throughout the evening with six different drivers taking home victories.

After being involved in an incident yesterday, Matt Hirschman's crew worked hard to get his Modified back together. The work paid off as the North Hampton, Pennsylvania went to victory in the Tour-Type Modified feature. Ted Christopher, Chuck Hossfeld, Kevin Goodale and Jon McKennedy rounded out the top five.

Changing engines was the trick tonight for Iowa driver Landon Cassill as he was able to motor his way to the win in the Crate Late Model feature. David Rigan, Patrick Laperle, David Wagner and Stephen Nasse were the top-five finishers.

After stuffing his primary SK Modified into the wall during qualifying, New Jersey’s Jimmy Blewett rebounded to take the victory in the SK Modified feature. He was followed across the line by Bobby Grigas, Kenny “Cannonball” Horton, David Cranmer and Chris Jensen.

For the second night in a row, Florida native Jeff Choquette dominated the Super Late Model feature. Wayne Anderson, Tim Russell, Jeremy Colangelo and David Rogers rounded out the top five.

Lee Collins stayed up front and out of the chaos behind him to win the Florida Modified feature. The rest of the top five was Jerry Symons, Nick Diano, Jeff Ganus and Robert Deal.

In the final feature of the night, Jessica Murphy held off Austin Pickens to take the win in the Late Model feature. The top-two cars crossed the start-finish line sideways, wrecking going into turn one. Murphy’s car had to be towed to victory lane for post-race ceremonies. Sam Watts finished third, followed by Drew Brannon, and Chad Akins.

The third night of Florida Speedweeks at New Smyrna Speedway will take place Sunday, February 8th. The Super Late Models, Late Models, Florida Modifieds, and the Winged Sprints will all see action. Green flag for the first feature event is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
