SCOTT WALTERS HEATS UP THE TRACK ON A COLD SATURDAY NIGHT AT CCMP
KARNAC STAFF REPORT

Scot Walters out of Naples clearly had one of the fastest super late model cars Saturday night at Charlotte County Motorsports Park. Walters was the first to qualify in the 55 machine when problems with the timing equipment clocked him at 15.358 which put him 8th in qualifying.

Walters drew the number one pill and started on the pole. Fast time went to the 09 of Scott Grossenbacher from San Antonio, who started in the 8th spot. Scott Walters got off to a good start and stayed out in front while the #5 of Joe Boyd of Riverview was in second.

It took twenty laps for Mike “Hollywood “ Franklin to run out of patience trying to get around Boyd for that second spot when a bump from behind sent Boyd spinning and Franklin to the rear. Several Laps later the #8 of Sean LeMaster, also from Naples, made it up to challenge Boyd and it was a replay of lap 20 when Boyd went spinning again and LeMaster went to the rear.

Joe Winchell followed Boyd for several laps trying to get around him till some shuffling went on and Winchell got shuffled back a few spots along with Boyd. Tuffy Hester of Lakeland was on a mission to run down the leader, with Hester now in second and his site on Walters, he was the closes anyone got to Walters all 100 laps.

The last caution came out on lap 80 which tightened the cars up, and Walters had to give it his all to keep in front of the 77 of Hester who was running a faster Hoosier tire, and Walters stayed smooth and finished the race in first place and leading all 100 laps. Hooters Pro Cup driver Billy Bigley Jr (Naples, FL) had some early car problems and pitted once but made it back up to fifth. Coming in third was hot shoe B.J McLeod of Wauchula and fast qualifier Scott Grossenbacher ran out of time and would have to settle for fourth.

The Road Warriors ran a 25 lap feature with the new CCMP street stock class due to pre-season low car count. The CCMP Camaros ran in front of the Road Warriors as they were the faster cars but the battle was going on with the Road Warriors when Port Charlotte Don Jericka got around Kenny Gibson for the lead and held him off for the win. Gibson would have to settle for second and Jericka’s daughter Dawn Jericka would come in third. David Foster in the street stock would be the winner after dragging a tail pipe for twenty laps and Tome Potts was second.

Thunder Trucks are a fan favorite at Charlotte County Motorsports Park because they are always sure to see a lot of beating and banging and spinning through the infield. After the smoke cleared it was Richard Dupont to cross the line first and Lance Sober of Arcadia second Robert St, John of Arcadia would be third.

Pro 4 class ran for 25 laps with Mike LeMaster of Naples holding off Eugene Connell for first, Connell was second and Dylan Bigley of Naples was third.

The Fab 4 was the first class to take to the track for the night but after the three strike rule, “three tries at getting a lap in” and not being able to get the line ups right and twenty five minuets later, they were sent to the pits and brought out as the last feature of the night. After getting it all right this time out when the checkers flew it was Todd Blevins crossing the line first in the 8L machine of Lemaster, second was the 0 of Josh Flesher out of Bonita Springs and John Pummell Jr out of Arcadia was third.
