The Central Sheds and Trailers Challenge series peaked at Hendry County Speedway Saturday night. Over 80 cars turned out to battle for large paychecks in every class. Drivers made the trip from all over Florida and as far as Illinois. The night started out with Sky Dive Adventures dropping in before hot laps started. There were 18 events to follow before the night was over.
The big show of the evening was the $5000.00 to win Late Model race. Four separate heat races sorted the cars out for the feature. The top 8 cars drew pills for their starting positions live on the front straight. Shan Smith has been a 3 time winner of this race. After winning his heat race none of the drivers wanted to see him draw the #1 pill that grabbed him the pole position.
When the green flag flew, Smith assumed the lead of the race. Early on it was apparent that the only driver that could run with him was Keith Nosbitch. Nosbitch led for 3 laps after Smith nearly spun the car in turn 4. Smith was diving in to turn 1 under Nosbitch when contact between the two cars sent Nosbitch to the pits with a flat tire. Smith went on to win his 4th in a row and took home the biggest paycheck in the series. Josh Peacock finished 2nd were he had been most of the race. Brian Bernhardt rode out the 3rd spot. Ryan Mitchell and Ted Erskin rounded out the top 5.
Four separate heat races sorted out the 27 Limited Late Model/Sportsman Challenge series drivers. Tommy Evanoski had the early lead being chased by Roger Crouse. Working through lap traffic, contact was made and Evanoski suffered his first of 2 flat tires that held him out of contention for a win. Crouse was the new leader with Michael Cherry and Tim Powers right on his bumper. Crouse cruised on to victory ahead of Cherry. Powers held on to 3rd. He had to hold off Joe Henke who started 21st and made a late race charge to 4th. Jeremy Dowler took the 5th place spot.
The Outlaw Four Cylinder race was fast and clean. Nose to tail like a train these guys made few mistakes and kept the cars clean. Shane Burroughs took home the first place honors. Jim Courson had a good run for 2nd. Cecil Martin took a top three finish.
Mini Stock division had a great 16 car turnout. New rule in the division opened the race up to cars that had previously been deemed Mini Mods. Ron Dubeau had his firecracker of a Pinto in the lead early. A spin all on his own would make his drive for the win start at the rear of the field. S.C. Klinger put his car out front for the remainder of the 20 lap race. Winning his first race in a dirt car. Ron Dubeau managed to get back to the 2nd position before the checkers flew. Brian Bail ran 3rd. Jason Intoppa and Joe Rice rounded out the top 5.

Open Wheel Modifieds: What can I say? Roger Crouse and Jamie Burroughs drove a great race. The two drivers battled each other cleanly as caution flag after black flag flew repeatedly during the race. Crouse was able to capture his 2nd win of the night. This is something that he has been able to do many times before. Burroughs took the 2nd position. John Bradley took the 3rd spot.
Hendry County Speedway will be hosting a truck pull on December 1st. Racing and a Demolition Derby on the 8th. I hope to see all our friends and racing families for some cool weather racing.
