Shane Miller Gets First Ever TBARA Win at Columbia Motorsports Park

By Larry Lype

This was the third and final visit of the 2001 TBARA Winged Sprint Series 2001 Tour to Bert Ashelman's fast half mile speedplant. The fans were treated to a ultra fast night of TBARA action. Three fast heat races were won by Kevin Cahill, 2000 TBARA Champion Jim Childers, and Doug Heveron. This made them eligible or the Barfield Clean Sweep Bonus. As the feature pushed off, heat race winner Kevin Cahill spun between turns one and two, tipping over and damaging the wing. With a great effort by the MCR Motorsports Crew and other teams, with a new wing, Cahill made the start of the feature, albeit from the rear of the field. At the drop of the green flag, Shane Miller grabbed the lead. On Lap 2, Gary Gimmler broke the rear end in his #29 bringing out the first and only yellow of the night. On the restart, it was Miller's night, as he led every lap on the way to his first ever TBARA Series feature win. 2000 TBARA Champ Jim Childers was second and Wayne Reutimann Jr. was third. Fourth place finisher Keith Butler won the Eagle Jet - GMS Motorsports Hard Charger Bonus Award. and rounding out the top five was Shane Butler.
