Volusia OctoberFest - Day Two

(Barberville, FL; 10/29/2000) Day two of Volusia Speedway Park's Octoberfest 2000 featured USCS Sprints, Florida Mini-Sprints, local classes, and the return of dirt modifieds. The fine weekend of racing
was capped with a bizarre ending Sunday night; most appropriate for upcoming Halloween.

Kenny Adams won the 30-lap United Sprint Car Series A-Main. (See that article for full details).

The Florida Mini-Sprint Association joined their larger brothers Sunday as they finished their 2000 season. Nineteen sprints were on hand for the 20-lap feature. Rob Feeney of Ocala, FL sat on the pole. He jumped to the early lead and withstood heavy pressure from Orlando's John Craddock to capture the win. Craddock finished second; 2000 points champion Jess Teed placed third, with John Cinkota and Allen Craig rounding out the top five. Mike Schroeder and Jeff
Gaudin won the heat races.

The final race of the night marked the return of dirt modifieds to the VSP's half-mile, clay oval. Nineteen Southeast Dirt Modified Association modifieds started the 20-lap feature event. Marion Sizemore started on the pole. He jumped to the early lead. Solid, two groove racing developed through the field.

Shortly before the modified feature, fog started rolling in across the back straight. The race became reminiscent of the Philidelphia-Chicago Fog Bowl as it became increasingly difficult for drivers to see the car in front of them. When the caution flew for an accident on lap 13, race officials decided to call the race. Marion Sizemore won the shortened event. Chip Owen finished second, Doodle Pipkin third, Kenny Porter fourth, and James Jeffers fifth.

It is possible that Volusia Speedway Park will run modifieds on a weekly or semi-weekly basis during the 2001 season. Stay turned to Karnac.com for details.

In earlier race action, the Ob's Resturant Hobby Stocks ended their season with a 30-lap feature. Heat races held on Saturday put Steve Oldaker on the pole of the 24-car field. Charles Kinsey, Jr. jumped from his fourth starting spot to grab the early lead. He left everyone else in his dust as he easily won the race. Joe Belkey finished second, with Dennis North, Trevor Gamble, and Bob Shook rounding out the top five.

The Action Performance Street Stocks ran 40 laps Sunday night. Dave Kinsey sat on the pole. He was joined on the front row by Richard Adams who both won heat races on Saturday. Kinsey jumped to the early
lead ahead of Adams. The real story of the race was Chris Vogel. Starting 12th, he worked his way up to second place by the midpoint of the race.

For fifteen laps, Vogel battled Kinsey, finally slipping inside on lap 36. It was easy sailing for Vogel for the last few laps. Chris Vogel won the Action Performance Street Stock feature going away.
Dave Kinsey, Richard Adams, Pat Vareika, and Bobby Layman rounded out the top five.

The Action Performance Street Stocks conclude their season November 4. They will run a 25-lap feature in support of the 3rd Annual Enduro 150. $10,000 awaits the Enduro winner, and almost 100 cars are expected.
