Veteran Driver Dave Dunkin Snags SARA Win

The SARA BMD Title Loan Late Model Sportsman Series made its 5th stop last Saturday night at the Auburndale Speedway for a 100 lap feature event. Bobby Beauchemin held the points lead over Joe Boyd by 52 points and Jeff Scofield by 79 points. A tremendous field of 35 teams would try to make the field of 28 in the feature event at the mile facility. It was a good mix of local drivers and SARA regulars, making this one of the most competitive races of the year.

Mike McCrary, Jr. would set the fast time with a 14.438, and pick up an additional $100 for the effort. After pills were drawn for starting positions, Marlon Lynn would find his Ford Taurus on the point for the main event. Local track veteran Dave Dunkin would start on the outside of row one. Kevin Ingram, Jeff Scofield, and Wayne Morris would round out the top five.

Lynn would have his problems when Ingram almost drove his car through his drivers side window as the two came into turn three on the 1st lap. Lynn would suffer considerable damage, and would not be a contender for the rest of the evening. That put Dunkin on the point for the restart, and he would prove to be the man to beat. Morris, also with quite a bit of experience at the Auburndale Speedway, quickly moved up to challenge Dunkin for the lead, but an incredible accident with the points leader Bobby Beauchemin on lap 47 sent Morris into the catch fence in turn three, putting an end to both drivers night. That would open the door for McCrary, Jr. to make his move for the victory. But the experience and patience of Dunkin would pay off, as he was able to hold his line on the bottom of the track, keeping McCrary, Jr. at bay. Dunkin would hang on to pick up a hard earned victory over a very talented field of drivers. McCrary, Jr. would hold on to 2nd, and Jeff Scofield would turn in another spectacular run for 3rd. Eddie Miller would have his second good run in as many races to take 4th, and Brent ONeil would have his best finish of the year in 5th.

Next stop for the SARA BMD Title Loan Late Model Sportsman Series will be June 10th at the South Alabama Motor Speedway in Opp, AL for a 125 lap feature event.
