Pro Modified 50 Lapper plus Legends headline Orlando SpeedWorld Friday Night

by Jane Smith

Bithlo, Fla. (November 4, 2003) With only two races left at Orlando SpeedWorld until the end of the 2003 points season, you can bet there will be plenty of hot racing action Friday night. All divisions; Super Lates, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stock will be racing plus a 50 lap Pro Modified race and Legends.

Fans who come to Orlando SpeedWorld Friday night will get a SPECIAL bonus this week as their ticket from Friday night will get them into New Smyrna Speedway Saturday night for the TBARA Winged Sprints plus the 50 lap Homer Gordon Sportsman feature FREE. So be sure to save your ticket and enjoy two nights for the price of one.

With only one race left after Friday night, the Pro Modifieds come into Friday night's action with some very close points. Finishing good in these last two races will determine who will be the 2003 Pro Modified Champion.

Jerry Symons, the 2002 Pro Modified Champion, comes into Friday night's action leading the points with 684 but Alan McCafferty is not giving him a big enough lead to assure Symons of the championship. McCafferty comes in only 45 points behind Symons with 639. Only 51 points separate third to seventh which means this will definitely be a tight race. Jim "Hoot" Flynn stands third with 520 points but Skip Honaker is not giving Flynn much room as he comes in fourth at 491 points, only 29 points behind Flynn.

Bryan Campbell stands fifth with 472 points followed by Jason Boyd in sixth with 448 points. But only eight points behind Boyd is Red Vann who comes in at 440 points. Alan Bruns runs eighth in points with 367 but Lee Collins is only 7 points behind Bruns in ninth with 360 points. Larry Osteen rounds out the top ten with 300 points.

With points this tight, expect to see one "great" race Friday night.

Derrick Wood leads the Bandolero Bandits with 904 points followed by Chad Akins in second with 860 points. Gerald White Jr. stands third with 768 points followed by Josh Williams in fourth with 580 points. Matthew Jarrett rounds out the top five with 548 points.

Kevin Henry tops the Bandolero Young Guns with 952 points. Brandon Thomson comes in second with 788 points followed by Scott Jarrett with 772 points. Jessica Murphy comes in third with 476 points followed by Troy Atkins with 436 points. Chelsea Schilling rounds out the top five with 408 points.

B.J. McLeod holds a four point lead in the Super Late Model points over Rusty Ebersole. McLeod now has 724 points with Ebersole at 720 points. With only two weeks left, this championship will go down to the wire. Ricky Wood comes home third with 432 points and looks pretty much assured of that point standing. Ronnie Roach, last Friday night's winner, comes home fourth with 340 points followed by Rick Bates with 288.

Another very close points battle is the Open Wheel Modifieds. They will be off this weekend with the Pro Mod race on the program, but returning November 14th for the last race of the 2003 season, Matt Wheeler leads the points with 652 but Shane Held has not given up the idea of a second Mod championship. Held comes in at 636 points, only 26 points behind Wheeler.

Lynn Dicandio stands third with 488 points and even with a win on the 14th by the fourth place Jason Boyd, Dicandio should retain third. Boyd stands 44 points behind Dicandio at 444. Rounding out the top five is Glen Bradley with 380 points.

Richard Hight has the Sportsman Championship in his pocket and raced at New Smyrna Speedway last Saturday night and won. Said Hight, "I decided to give someone else a chance to win and leave Orlando and try New Smyrna. I had a good year at SpeedWorld and now I am just playing for fun."

Donnie Smith stands second in points with 476 but third place Danny Shearer has not given Smith alot of room to breathe. Shearer comes home third with 440 point. Justin Hall and Michael Albert are tied in fourth and fifth with 368 points each but Albert has been a "no show" for some time and Hall should move forward with Albert's absence.

Tim "Missileman" McPhail has won his second Mini Stock Championship as he stands 176 points over second place Dick Laszlo. Laszlo leads third place Sean Bass by 24 points and depending on both their finishes the next two weeks, either one could end up second in points. Randy Blakeslee stands fourth in points with 272 points with R.J. Arnone coming home fifth with 224 points. Arnone blew his engine last Friday night and is more than likely done for the year.

Cory Freed has won his second consecutive championship in the Super Stock division as he leads with 716 points. Freed, who was done for the year, returned last Friday night to honor his friend Homer Gordon who we lost recently.

Ron Whaley comes in second in points with 488 followed by Bob Wines at 448 points. Bob Beiler stands fourth with 416 points with Andy Nichols at fifth with 292 points.

Grandstands open at 6 p.m. with qualifying for the Pro Mod 50 lapper at 6:30 p.m. Racing begins at 8 p.m. Orlando SpeedWorld is located between SR50 and SR520 in Bithlo, Fla.
