Danny Martin Jr. Wins USCS "Trick or Treat Thunder" at East Bay



Seventeen year old Danny Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida lost his power steering on lap four, then drove his #00 Flyin' Pumpkin' special addition sprint car past front row starters Sport Allen and Jimmy Kite, then reeled in early leader Greg Wilson on lap ten to capture the Halloween night special United Sprint Car Series "Trick or Treat Thunder" 25 lap main event at East Bay Raceway Park Friday.

Martin who won the last weekly sprint car feature at East Bay as well and has won four times at East Bay this season, proved he is a force to be reckoned with at his home track against all comers. The flashy young gun started third and powered his way to the front, then drove lapped traffic like a seasoned veteran right into victory lane.

The popular young driver emerged from the car with hot power steering fluid all over him to a wildly cheering East Bay crowd. Wilson from Benton Ridge Ohio, held on to second ahead of a hard charging and eighth starting Kenny Adams from Malabar, Florida who got up beside both front runners on lap 28 and the trio made for an exciting finish. Sport Allen from Largo, Florida followed in fourth and defending United Sprint Car Series champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee rounded out the top five.

Paulie Millum from Sarasota finished sixth, Brian Maddox from Tampa was seventh, Neil LaRose from Tampa eighth, Lee Scrape from Jacksonville was ninth and 1997 USCS Champion, Red Stauffer from Winter Park, Florida completed the top ten.

Kenny Adams, Paulie Millum and rookie Tom Winegardner, Jr. won the heat races and Jim Raptis won the B main event. The event's Huggins Cams "Hard charger" award went to Aubrey Black who past nine cars in the main event. Shawn Stafford received the Hart Racing "top rookie" selection for the event.

On Saturday night, the USCS drivers return to the speedway with Grand Marshall Winston Cup great, Ernie Irvan for a full program of sprint car racing and the 35 lap Lonnie Prevatt Memorial Race. Saturday nigth's main event pays $3000 to win with bonuses possible. For ticket info and directions call the speedway at 813-677-7223.
