Scott Adema Takes First Feature Win of the Season at New Smyrna

The TBARA Florida touring race sprint car club was at New Smyrna speedway on Saturday night. Twenty cars made the trip to New Smyrna , making for 3 heat races of 8 laps each.

Scott Adema in the number 2 car started the first heat on the pole, but was passed in turn 3 of lap 2 by heat winner Dude Teate in the 96 car who had started the heat in sixth position.

The second heat saw the 5W car of Randy Woodall on the pole. Second place starter Ray Bragg took the lead at the first corner and kept it to win the second heat.

The 56 car driven by Bobby Rose had the pole seat for the third and final heat. The heat got off to thrilling start with the 56, Sonny Hartley on the 32 from second place and Gary Gimmler in the 29 from third place going three cars wide on the front straightaway. The 29 came out in front and went on to win the heat.

As the cars were started up for the feature race and began the pre race hot laps, the front axle of the 32 car broke putting the car into the wall coming out of turn 4. The cars were stopped whilst the car was removed and the track cleaned up. Before the cars were stopped on the track, the 18 car pulled into the pits and therefore would have to start from the rear when the race got restarted.

As the cars lined back up, the 2 car driven by Scott Adema had the pole position for the start of the race. When the lights went green, Scott held onto that pole position. After 4 laps, Wayne Reutimann Jr in the 00 car retired from the race when the wing on his car broke and began to slope down.

The number 3 car of Ricky Burnett retired to the pits on lap 6 of the race, followed by the 5W of Randy Woodall and the 66 of Ray Bragg on race lap 13, Skeeter Faulconer in the 6 on lap 14 and Shane Butler in car number 18 on lap 18. On race lap 22, Bo Hartley in the 68 car spun in turn 3, bringing out the caution flag. The car was restarted and put to the back of the field.

With 21 laps completed, the final 4 laps passed without further incidence and Scott Adema in the number 2 car took the checkered flag, with Wayne Reutimann Sr in the 99 in second place, Dude Teate in the 96 in third, the 19 of Keith Butler in fourth and the 22 driven by Doug Heveron rounding out the top five.

The TBARA´s next race event will be at Cordele Speedway in Georgia on October 18.
