Gulfcoast Triple Classic presented by Bearden Oil and Southern Race Fuels Coming to a Track Near You

by Jane Smith

(August 27, 2003) Bearden Oil and Southern Race Fuels are proud to announce the first Gulfcoast Triple Classic to run in September, October and November.

The first race for the Gulfcoast Triple Classic will run September 13th at Sunshine Speedway. The race will be 50 laps with $1,000 to win and a $50.00 entry fee.

Frank Hill of Sunshine Speedway said, "we are proud to host the first race for the newest event in Florida for our modifieds. We are expecting a good car count and packed stands."

On October 25th, the Gulfcoast Triple Classic will move to Charlotte County Speedway for a 75 lap race with $1,500 to win and a $75.00 entry fee. Leroy Davidson, owner of Charlotte County Speedway, said "I think this three race event will be a winner for the modifieds. Never have they had a Triple Classic. We have made a lot of improvements this year to Charlotte County and I believe the drivers will be quite surprised at our new track."

The third and final race will be November 9th at Bronson Motor Speedway and will be a 100 lap race with $2,000 to win and a $100.00 entry fee.

Mike Cope, owner of Bronson Motor Speedway, is very pleased to host the last race of the Triple Classic and be where the points fund will be distributed after the race.

"Each race will also have a Pole Award from Hatrack Shocks and RPM Signs and Webb Roofing has established a Hard Charger Award for each race too." said Cope. "What I think is very impressive is the lottery drawing for the top ten in point standings at the Bronson race. Each of the top ten will have a chance to win a Gulfcoast Spec Engine built by Dave Pletcher Racing in association with B.H.J. Balancers, Champ Pans, Comp.Cams, Corteco, Crower, Eagle, R.E.V., and T.A.W. Each of these associates supplied parts for our Spec Engine." said Cope.

The top ten will also draw for a OWM Body/Mounted, OWM Chassis, Four Bilstein Shocks, $1,200 in machine work, four Landrum Springs, fifty gallon drum of fuel, $500.00 cash, four Goodyear Tires and Four Hoosier Tires. Those not in the top ten will draw for a separate prize of 4 Hatrack Shocks worth about $800.00.

Other sponsors for the Gulfcoast Triple Classic are Dave Pletcher Racing, Reutimann Racing, Jimmy Cope Racing, Mowery Motorsports, Nelson Brother's Machine, Eagle's Nest Racing,, Holeshot Engineering, Video Security and Communications, Goodyear and Hoosier Tires..

The Sunshine race will be run on Hoosier tires with Charlotte County Speedway and Bronson Motor Speedway on Goodyear Tires.

In order to allow all Florida Open Wheel Modified drivers to compete in the Gulfcoast Triple Classic presented by Bearden Oil and Southern Race Fuels, Officials have decided weight will be the equalizer. Spec Engine Mods need to weigh 2500 lbs. The unlimited engines need to weigh 2750 lbs. with 50 of those pounds in front of the flywheel with aluminum heads. Unlimited engines above .358 cubic inches will be 7 lbs. per cubic inch.
