Jeff Sloan Gets First Win in All American Challenge Series

by Jane Smith

Bradenton, Fla - Jeff Sloan from Crystal River, Florida, got to visit Winner's Circle for the first time in the All American Challenge Series at DeSoto Speedway on Saturday, April 19.

Mike Fritts, driving Dick Anderson's famous #92 Super Late Model, qualified fastest for the fourth race of the 2003 All American Challenge Series and with the roll of the die, the field started straight up. Sloan qualified eighth in a field of twenty two cars.

It took two restarts to get the race going but on the second restart, the cars went single file. Sloan, who was behind Billy Bigley, Jr., followed Bigley by Daryl Shelnut then on the next lap, Perry Brown pushed up the track and Bigley and Sloan were able to pass Brown.

Getting a good run, Sloan was able to pass Bigley a few laps later putting Sloan in fifth position. Near the halfway mark of the race, Dave Pletcher who was passing a lapped car, spun bringing out the caution with Pletcher rejoining the field in the rear.

On the restart, Jeff Scoffield and Fritts got together sending them both back to the rear of the field. This gave the lead to John Jackson with Sloan in second and 34 laps to go.

"Jackson was alittle loose getting thru the corners so I just waited for him to make a mistake" said Sloan. "Two cautions later, I got a good run on Jackson and was right on his tail for 2 laps. Going into turn 1, I was able to get under him. We banged fenders once and by turn 2, the lead was mine" Sloan concluded.

Jackson held the second position until Joe Boyd, the previous All American Challenge Series race winner, was able to pass and take over the second place position.

The last 25 laps of the race saw five cautions but each restart Sloan was able to jump to the lead taking the checkered and winning his first All American Challenge Series race.

In Winner's Circle Sloan said, "This memory will never be lost. Without the love and support and help from Nancy, my wife, and Christie, my daughter, this great day may not have happened."

Sloan is presently third in points in the All American Challenge Series, one point behind second place Dave Pletcher and 44 points behind points leader Joe Boyd.

The next All American Challenge Series race will be May 10 at Desoto Speedway.
