Moff Two for Two in DeSoto Limited Lates

By Rick Anges

Doug MoffMarty Pierce returned to the High Banks of DeSoto Speedway to claim the fast qualifier time of 14.87 seconds over the field of 21 Limited Late Models for the 100 lap Turner Tree and Landscape series.

The roll of the die inverted the field two rows putting Keith Lilley on the point. The green dropped and Lilley immediately jumped out to the lead where he would remain for most of the race.

The action was hot and heavy behind Lilley; cars were going two and three wide battling for position. Doug Moff and Pierce were in a heated fight for the second spot when the two tangled and spun, both cars were sent to the rear for bringing out the yellow flag. Pierce and Moff wasted no time in making their way back to the front. Pierce definitely had a fast racecar but as he dove low going into turn 3 on a move to take the lead from Lilley the two got together and went around in a cloud of smoke. The result was both cars being sent to the rear giving Moff the point.

Scott Kleiber had a good run going running a strong second until he was caught up in a wreck and having to retire his machine. Some tense moments happened while Pierce was making his way back towards the front, he and Bill Davis who was running fifth at the time were involved in a crunching wreck. As the two got together on the backstretch Pierce went airborne. The whole side of his car was ripped off while Daviss car had severe front-end damage. Both driver walked away but their rides had to be towed off the speedway.

When the smoke finally cleared it was Doug Moff taking the checkered flag, Glenn Morris was second, Tommy Younkman had a great run finishing third, fourth went to DeWayne Bryant, and in the fifth spot was Chad Allman.

Mod-Mini

Steve Gill Started on the pole and never looked back taking his first feature win of the young season. Andy Whitted showed some skilled driving and great handling in the turns to take the second spot. Third was Brent Yoder, fourth went to Mary Green and rounding out the top five was Paul Huffstutler.

Mini_Stocks

Syndee Brown made a triumphant return to the winners circle beating out a good field of Mini Stocks to take home the trophy to cheers of the crowd. Hollywood John Wilson charged through the field to take the second position, third was Joe Gagen, fourth went to Jon Bailey and fifth was Steve Booth.
