Hooter's ProCup heads to New Smyrna Speedway with hot racing action and Swimsuit Action

New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida will host the third race of the season for the USAR Hooters ProCup Series. The speedway, located off Interstate 95 just south of Daytona Beach, is a well-known short track throughout the Southeast and the USAR Hooters ProCup Series is ready to roll their 3,300-pound machines to the asphalt.

The Advance Discount Auto Parts 250 will also give several Florida-based teams the chance to showcase their talents to many family, friends and fans. One such competitor will be Andrew Medlin. Medlin, from Largo, Florida, collected his first of his two career top-five finishes in the Series last spring at the track and has two top-10 finishes so far this season.

Pinellas Park, Florida drivers David Pletcher and Billy Mowery are also scheduled to participate joining Winter Haven, Florida native Keith Roggen.

Also joining the list of Floridians will be last year's Advance Auto Parts Pole Award winner Mario Gosselin and Derrick Kelley, driver of the Discount Auto Parts Chevrolet. Luke Hill, who enjoyed a solid 11th-place finish to open the season at USA International Speedway, will also bring family in from Safety Harbor, Florida for the event.

The race should feature a lot of action as last year's 250-lap event featured 16 caution flags during the race with 25 of the 36 cars still running at the end of the 250-lap feature. Last year Bobby Gill outdistanced Hal Goodson to give him his third consecutive win to open the season. The race featured a competitive race of 11 lead changes among four drivers.

Gill returned to the Series at Five Flags Speedway and qualified in the top-five for his first race back since undergoing shoulder surgery in January. Gill showed no ill effects from the shoulder as he moved to the front and was racing for the lead when he suffered mechanical problems and was forced to park his car on lap 44.

"New Smyrna Speedway is a very challenging racetrack," said Gosselin. "We were good enough last year to win the pole here and finish on the lead lap. It would really be nice to get back into victory lane and New Smyrna would be a good place to get our next one."

In addition to the race on Saturday night, Hooters of Daytona will also hold the regional semi-finals and finals at the track for their Swimsuit Competition. The semi-finals will be held Friday night and the finals on Saturday night prior to the running of the race. For more information please contact the Hooters of Daytona.
