Citrus County Speedway Back in Business with Winter Spectacular II

January 5, 2003

by Larry MacMillan

Inverness, Fla - After a four week layoff for the holidays, Citrus County Speedway will turn it on for 2003 with the Winter Spectacular II 125 for Late Models plus, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Thunder Stocks on Saturday, January 11th.

There will be a Friday night practice from 5 to 10 p.m. for tuning and testing. Bring your rig and there will be security all night. Practice on Saturday will start at 2 p.m. and time trials will set the field at 5 pm.

Five Thousand dollars is again up for the winner's share of the big payoff for the Late Models. Question is can anyone come up with a combination to outrun perennial winner of the big ones, Mike Bresnahan? Apparently Bresnahan is ready to share his experience and set up with his new business, which won't open in time for this race. Without a doubt, Bresnahan is the Late Model pilot to beat at his home track taking home the majority of the big money throughout 2002.

There should be plenty of competition again for the Saturday Winter Showdown and it certainly isn't a gimme race for the local hot shoes. Plan on seeing Rex Struble, Billy Bechtelheimer, Herb Hoefler, Danny Johnson, Herb Ne3umann, Jr., Scott Grossenbacher, Tom Haselmayer and possibly the father and son team of Dick and Wayne Anderson plus any others ready to take on the 3/8ths mile. It's an open field for 125 laps with the final 25 laps to be run under green and only 3 caution laps counting for each caution period prior to the 100 mark.

Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Thunder Stocks will bring some refreshed racecars out of the garage and hopefully will have them winterized and ready to roll for an all feature program. With only four weeks left before the official start of the 2003 season, many of the drivers and owners are still working on their cars and will have to put some over- time in to get ready for this race.

The regular season opens on February 8th and will feature the TBARA Sprint Cars in the first of three races they have scheduled for 2003. Also on the 2003 schedule are Pro Modifies, FASTRUCKS, the Sunbelt 125, and FAST Sprints. The second leg of the Powell Memorial 150 will be run at Citrus as well as the second leg of the Governor's Cup, a second leg of Florida Pro Series and the 2nd leg of TBARA Sprints special. The first leg of all these races will be run at Ocala Speedway on Friday night.

The season is looking real bright for 2003 at the Action Attraction with the Winter Spectacular II kicking things off this Saturday, January 11th. So let's get back to racing and put the metal to the pedal to where the action is, Citrus County Speedway. Grandstand Gates open at 12 Noon and there is a family special ticket for two adults and two children under 12 years old for just $30 so bring the family and enjoy. Citrus County Speedway is 2 miles south of Inverness on U.S. 41 at the Citrus County Fairgrounds, right next to Inverness Airport.
